Roero Riserva “Mompissano”

Roero Riserva “Mompissano” was born in 1999 after this beautiful vineyard was acquired by the estare on Mompissano Hill. The hill sits above Roero’s principle town, Canale and the Cascina Ca’ Rossa farmhouse and winery. The vineyard is one of the highest on the hill, directly under the Torre in Terra (“Tower of Earth,” a towering bluff that overlooks Canale and serves as a local landmark). It was decided to honor this land, this terroir, by putting the name of the hill on the label.

2010 Roero Mompissano - “3 bicchieri” – 2014 Vini d’Italia (Gambero Rosso)

2010 Roero Mompissano – 94 Points – Vinous Media (Oct 2013)
“I would love to see more wines like Ca' Rossa's 2010 Roero Mompissano in the Roero. Deep, expressive yet not at all heavy, the 2010 flows with the essence of dark red cherries, plums, cinnamon, leather and menthol. There is a translucency and weightlessness to the 2010 that is striking. The firm tannins add grip, but are also impeccably balanced. This is a dazzling showing from Ca' Rossa.” ~ A. G.

2008 Roero Mompissano – 93 Points – Robert Parker Wine Advocate
“The 2008 Roero Mompissano flows with dark cherries, plums, spices and freshly cut flowers.  The vibrant, wine needs another year or two in the bottle, but it has tons of intensity and sheer power.  It will be absolutely fabulous once the tannins geginto soften a bit.  Anticipated maturity: 2012 – 2013"

2007 Roero Mompissano – 93 Points – Robert Parker Wine Advocate (#192 Dec. 2010)
“The 2007 Roero Mompissano is another fabulous wine from Ca’ Rossa.  This shows superb richness and density in a bold style for Roero. Ripe, juicy fruit, sweet spices and French oak meld together beautifully in this expressive Roero. The aromas and flavors are just a touch forward, which suggests the Mompissano may be an early maturing wine, but I doubt that will be much of an issue as most of the bottles will have been drunk and enjoyed long before that is an issue.” ~A.G.
