Brunello di Montalcino, "Massimo"

“Massimo” : A Brunello di Montalcino with many meanings. It was born from the desire to produce something exceptional, where attention to detail serves to honor this fantastic land – a land made of shapes, colors and atmospheres that are absolutely unique.
The name of this wine originates from the wish of the owners of Villa le Prata to commemorate Professor Massimo Losappio who, upon coming to Montalcino in 1970 as part of a brief work experience, fell in love with this land, its colors, its harmony and its people.
Massimo loved his work which he carried out with continuous research, study and above all passion and love for his neighbors.
In 1981 Massimo bought Villa le Prata, which was once the summer residence of the Bishop of Montalcino, and before that a hunting lodge belonging to the Count De’Vecchi.
As was in his spirit, Massimo’s passion led him to buy vineyards in three different locations, with the ultimate desire to be able to compromise the most authentic atmosphere of the terroir of Montalcino in a single bottle.
Today, thirty years after the start of the winery and a few years after the passing of its founder, Villa le Prata has chosen to follow in Massimo’s footsteps and produce a limited number of bottles (only 600) of this wine, selecting the best grapes from the estate.
“Massimo” is vinified in steel vats for about twenty days and ages for a period of six years in 5 hl French oak tonneaux. It rests for five months in the bottle before drinking.
