Cascina Val del Prete, Roero Arneis “Luet”

Arneis is the historical grape from the Roero district. It is typically pleasing on the palate with slightly low acidity. This wine from the Luèt (small wolf in the Piedmontese dialect) vineyard is fermented 40% in French oak and 60% in stainless steel.  It spends 4 months in stainless steel tanks.

Vineyard: The Luet vineyard extends for 3 acres at 700 feet above sea level. The exposure is partly to the east and partly to the west. The vines are 18 years old with a density of 2.700 plants per acre. The vineyard is bio-dynamically fertilized.

Soil: Sandy with sections of clay.
Harvest: Middle of September
Yield: 2.8 tons per acre
Alcohol: 13°-13.5 %
Vinification: A 3-day maceration on the lees. 70% is fermented in stainless steel tanks and 30% ferments in new French oak barrels. It rests on the yeasts for 3 months. The malolactic fermentation takes place in the barrels.
Aging: 4 months in stainless steel tanks and 3 months in the bottle.
Total Production: 14.000 bottles

Tasting Notes: Straw yellow color with greenishs hues. Floral on the nose with notes of tropical fruit.  Long and soft finish. A rare breed of Arneis, this complex and extremely rich has enough acidity to keep everything in check.

Food Pairings: Goes well with prosciutto and melon, gnocchi or pasta with butter and roast rabbit
