Varietals: Nerello Mascalese - indigenous to the Etna area

Alcohol: 14.8%

Vineyard Location: the Arcurìa vineyard on the northeastern slopes of Etna at Passopisciaro, Castiglione di Sicilia, in the Province of Catania

Elevation: Between 1800 and 2100 feet above sea level.

Plant Density: Between 6,000 and 10,000 vines per hectare.

Soil: Dark brown in color, volcanic in origin, well-drained – almost sandy in some parts, neutral pH, not calcareous, mostly very rich in iron and nitrogen.

Harvest: Between 20 the and 22nd October 2006

Yield: 1,200 liters per acre

Fermentation: Classic red fermentation in large wooden barrels with maceration on the skins for 12 days with naturally occurring malolactic fermentation.

Aging: 14 months in large wooden barrels, made from Nevers oak by Austrian cooper
Stockinger with an additional aging in the bottle for at least 12 months.

Vintage details: On the whole, 2006 was hot and dry. This has given the wine richness, high alcohol, depth and intensity.

Tasting Notes: The color is very pale crimson. Slightly gamey nose. Solid start, younger feeling than the Etna Rosso, the finish packs a lot of substance Good fruit with nuances of bitter cherries.
