DE CONCILIIS, AGLIANICO "DONNA LUNA"

 

The Aglianico is one of the higher-quality red wine grapes found in southern Italy, mainly in Campania and Basilicata. Often called the “Barolo of the South” the Aglianico is thought to have been planted in this region as early as the seventh century B.C. by the Greeks that settled Southern Italy. The wines from the more celebrated area of Taurasi and Aglianico del Vulture are noted for their roughness when young due to high tannins, noticeable acidity, and a dense concentration of flavors; they're definitely built for aging. As these wines mature, they can exhibit great balance, with subtle fruit flavors and earthy, tarry, and chocolaty characteristics. This Donnaluna Aglianico benefits from the closer proximity to the Mediterranean where the milder climate creates a more accessible wine, leaving the partaker wanting to explore the wine more and more.

Harvest: From September 25 to October 10.

Yield per Hectar: 6000 Kilos (1.3 Kg per plant)
Aging: 12 months in large oak barrels, 12 months in the bottle.
Total bottles produced: 750 ml: 45.000  - 1.500 ml:2.000
Alcohol: 14.50%
Vinification: Fermented in stainless steel vats with a 17 day maceration.

Tasting Notes: Deep ruby color, bright and broad nose. Aromas of ripe strawberry, cassis, cocoa, violets, on a mineral base. Typical Aglianico "textured" tannin structure framing a medium bodied wine delivering prominent flavors of black cherry and cracked black pepper. The wine finishes warm, the tannins are now more noticeable and they add to the pleasant experience.

Food Pairings: Ir compliments many pasta dishes especially game and roast meats.
