VILLA LE PRATA
The winery is in the villa built in 1862 for Count Carlo de Vecchi as a hunting lodge. It later became the property of the Catholic Church, and eventually was the summer home of the bishop of Montalcino. In 1982 the property was purchased by the current owners who in the following years created a small winery. The driving force of this enterprise was Mrs. Marialuce Losappio. Married to a surgeon, Marialuce was looking for something to distract her husband from his busy professional commitments.
The first two acres were planted in 1989 and today the winery has 8 acres planted with Brunello and 2 acres planted with Merlot. Most of the vineyards surround the villa and others are in the area of Castelnuovo dell' Abate, one of the most prized areas of Montalcino for growing grapes.
Benedetta Losappio, Marialuce’s daughter, is now managing the winery with the same passion for making quality wine as her mother An art-history graduate, Benedetta wants her wines to be a work of beauty and quality that can pass the test of time. To achieve this goal, Benedetta seeks the expert advice of Gioia Cresti, one of the leading winemakers in Tuscany.
