Luigi Baudana, Dolcetto d’Alba Baudana 2006 - Score: 90 points
Beautifully refined for a Dolcetto, with crushed blackberry and flowers that follow through to a medium body, with fine tannins and a clean, fruity finish. There's loads of mineral as well. This is very fine indeed. Drink now. 250 cases made. –JS

Luigi Baudana, Barolo Baudana 2004 Score: 88 points
The 2004 Barolo Baudana is the more lithe of the estate’s Barolos. Made in a focused, somewhat linear style, it reveals perfumed red fruit, spices, minerals and menthol with a taut, sinewy personality. The tannins are firm yet the wine gains expansiveness on the mid-palate to provide balance. This Barolo needs another year or two in bottle to help the wine come together a little more. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016.

Luigi Baudana, Barolo Cerretta 2004 Score: 88 points
The 2004 Barolo Cerretta is a dark, brooding offering loaded with super-ripe dark fruit, tar smoke and sweet toasted oak. There is excellent depth and persistence, but the wine ultimately comes across as somewhat monolithic and four-square, particularly in the coarse tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018.

Luigi Baudana, Barolo Baudana 2003 Score: 87 points
The estate's 2003 Barolo Baudana is a fragrant, super-ripe Barolo. It offers excellent length, yet the tannins dominate the wine's balance. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2013.

Luigi Baudana, Barolo Cerretta 2003 Score: 88 points
The 2003 Barolo Ceretta possesses greater depth than the Baudana in its jammy blackberries, blueberries, menthol and toasted oak. Made in a full-bodied, strapping style, it needs another year or two in bottle to settle down. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015. |
